Non-Surgical Management
Non-surgical treatment methods, such as pessaries or pelvic floor exercises, may
be used in the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse. However, they are rarely helpful.
Vaginal vault prolapse is a physical problem, which can only be permanently addressed
by fixing the physical defect surgically.
Vaginal Vault Suspension Surgery
Dr. Safir performs a newer type of vaginal vault suspension that is done entirely within the vagina (this is called a transvaginal approach), as opposed to older methods that require large abdominal incisions,
often causing scarring with a long recovery period. Even laparoscopic surgery, which is often touted by many urologists as the best method for vaginal vault suspension, requires a number of incisions on either side of the abdomen. Our method of vaginal vault suspension only requires a couple of small incisions in the vagina.
Vaginal vault suspension surgery is performed under regional or general anesthesia
and typically takes about an hour to complete. The procedure can be performed by
Dr. Safir at a surgicenter directly adjacent to his West Hills or Beverly Hills
urology offices, and is covered by most insurance plans.
