Y-V Preputioplasty Treatment
Traditionally, there have been two main treatments for phimosis: medical treatment
with steroid creams (cortisone and related products) and surgical treatment, which
meant circumcision. For teenage boys and adult males, circumcision may result in
significant postoperative pain. In his many years of practice as a Los Angeles urologist,
Dr. Michael Safir has found an increasing number of patients with phimosis who do
not want to undergo circumcision.
Phimosis patients, please be advised: you do not need to get circumcised! Treatment is available.
For males wishing to preserve their foreskin, Y-V preputioplasty surgery is often
an excellent alternative to circumcision. Y-V preputioplasty is a minimally invasive
procedure. Small Y-shaped incisions are made in the foreskin and then sutured together
(giving the appearance of a “V”) to widen the phimotic ring at the end of the foreskin.
Dr. Safir can perform this procedure in his West Hills or Beverly Hills urology
offices in under an hour under sedation and local anesthesia. Recovery time is typically
a few weeks, though most men are able to return to work in just a few days.

- High rate of procedure success
- High patient satisfaction
- Minimally invasive procedure means less post-operative pain and faster recovery
