About Urinary Incontinence
Some women have labial hypertrophy, a condition where the labia minora are disproportionately large compared to the labia majora. The labia minora may also have noticeable asymmetry.
As with other types of vaginal surgery, there may be both aesthetic and functional considerations:
Aesthetic Issues:
From an aesthetic perspective, women may be dissatisfied because of the oversized and/or asymmetrical appearance of the labia minora. Often, women may be self-conscious because the condition is visible when wearing swimsuits, leotards, and other revealing clothing.
Functional Issues:
Labial hypertrophy may also cause a number of functional problems, including pain and discomfort during sex, hygiene issues such as wetness, chafing and irritation (and sometimes infection) resulting from folds of excess labial tissue, and discomfort during physical exercise. Labiaplasty procedures involving labia minora reduction can effectively reduce women’s anxiety about their body image while simultaneously resolving these functional problems. Patients are much more comfortable during sex and can thus enjoy it more.
