Dr. Michael Safir is a renowned Board-Certified Urologist, specializing in the new
field of Reconstructive Urology. Reconstructive Urology consists of the treatment
of conditions of the urinary and genital systems in both men and women. He is also
a noted author and a compassionate leader in his field. Currently, he practices
at the West Hills Hospital in West Hills, California, where
he previously held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Department of Surgery
for a two year term. Dr. Safir also had the honor of serving as Assistant Professor
of Urology at New York Medical College and Section Chief of Reconstructive and Female
Urology. His philosophy that "compassion is the essence of his work", has willfully
guided him through his rigorous education and on to achieve some of the highest
accolades in Urology.

Dr. Safir’s education began at Chicago’s prestigious Northwestern University Medical School, earning his Medical Degree in the Honors Program in Medical Education, and completed his Urology residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. There he developed his stringent standards, uncompromising passion, and dedication to a lifetime of learning, which lead him to complete fellowship training in Female Urology at UCLA and in Urological Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at UCSF School of Medicine.
One of only a handful or surgeons world-wide who has completed an intense six-year residency in urology, as well as two separate year-long fellowships in female (UCLA) and
male (UCSF) reconstructive surgery, Dr. Safir represents a forward movement in the field of Reconstructive Urology, an emerging field of ultra-specialized pelvic surgeons.
Carefully selected for two of the most prestigious fellowships in the country Dr. Safir’s awards and accomplishments are an impressive list of top honors in his field, including the Dr. Susan Pearlman Award from the Northwestern Women's Physicians Association and the Pfizer Scholars in Urology award for "Leadership, Innovation and Outstanding Achievement." He was named as one of "America’s Top Urologists" by the Consumer’s Research Council of America in 2007-2010 in the field of Reconstructive Urology. Highly respected, he has co-authored entire chapters in two of the field’s most prominent textbooks, including The Oxford Textbook of Surgery, and has served as an instructor for the American Urological Association. There he taught other urologists and gynecologists the latest techniques in urinary and pelvic reconstructive surgery. Notably, he is a member of the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology and is also a member of the American Urological Association.
Having had the privilege of studying under world-renowned experts in Reconstructive Urology, Dr. Safir offers operations performed on entirely the same level of University-affiliated hospitals; and has done over 200 GreenLight procedures. As an accomplished author, Dr. Safir has written multiple scientific papers and his latest book Overcoming Urinary Incontinence: A Woman’s Guide To Treatment is a seminal work that is a testament to his desire to innovate and provide state of the art treatment to his patients.
In 2011, Dr. Safir was named as the secretary and treasurer of the Los Angeles Urological Society.
